Thanksgiving Day 14 - Genesis 2:21-25

'And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.'

Genesis 2:21-25

What am I thankful for today?  I am thankful for family.  God blessed me with a wonderful family growing up.  I had the best dad and mom.  My dad was my hero but that was not the end of my family.  God saw fit to send me to Kentucky and I found a wife.  That was one of the best blessings that God gave me!  I prayed hard for a wife and He sent me a wonderful one!

I also think of innocence of the first humans before sin entered in.  This innocence is replicated in babies today but that does not last long, but it is still a wonderful reminder of how we should be.  Now, I am not saying we should all run around naked and not be ashamed.  That is not what we should be doing!

But, we should come to God as little children.  Not in a childish way but in a trusting way.  God said and we should believe it and act on it.  That is how children are!  They are not ashamed or afraid to come right to their parents with anything.  I often am reminded of how wonderful the little children are in my music class.  They are not afraid to try and just about everyone one of them are able to sing any song!  Just ask them and they will give it a go!

Now that I have mentioned the little kids I teach, let me say something wonderful about my middle school kids.  They are not as bold to try things as the little kids are but, they are just as wonderful when you catch them doing something brave or something new and you brag on them!  They need that and so do adults!

How did I get to talking about my students?  That is easy!  I love them just like family!  Here is a couple of examples of when my kids came to my rescue at low points in my life.

One of my former middle school students came to my room early every day or almost every day for a week when my wife was having open heart surgery.  He told that God will take care of my wife.  That was a blessing and he was right!

Another time, one of my primary students walked across the hall and looked up at me and just said, "Hi Mr. Ord."  I was very upset at the time, although I don't remember about what.  That little girl made my day and I still remember it years later.  I joked with her and I told her to stop that, I was trying to be mad!  She laughed and that was even a bigger blessing to me!

Marriage is sacred.

'And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. '

Little children are a blessing and we should come to God with the same trusting attitude and love they do.

'Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. '

If you don't know how to approach God and would want some help, I would be honored to introduce you to Him!
